Savannah Red Cross Summer Fun and Water Safety When the hot summer sun is up,
it's time to find someplace cool.
The Savannah Red Cross says we can all beat the heat and enjoy
ourselves if we remember these simple tips for a great way to
cool down in the water.
Learn to swim and swim well: One of the best things anyone can do
to stay safe in and around water is to learn to swim with confidence.
Never leave small children unattended near water: Not even for a moment.
Practive "Reach Supervision", always be within an arms reach when your
child is near the water.
Keep Lifesaving gear handy: a lifejacket, rope or pole, or throwable flotation,
and have a first aid kit, cell phone, and emergency contact info nearby.
Know when its too dangerous: If you feel a little far from safety, chills, or
exposed to too much sun, strenuous activity, feel tired, its time to head in.
Eliminate temptation: Backyard pools should have self closing, self latching
gates that remain locked when the pool is not being used.
Know what you're getting into: Check local tides, currents, and weather
conditions befroe heading into open waters.
Alcohol and water don't mix: Never ever is this good. While swimming,
boating, fishing, in the ocean, lakes or rivers.. never ever a good thing.

Savannah Red Cross - Learn life saving skills
Everyone has the power to save a life.
On average it takes emergency personnel 8 minutes to arrive on scene.
For someone who is choking or has stopped breathing, that may be too late.
By learning simple rescue skills like CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED),
you can go from being a helpless bystander to a person with the ability to help someone during an emergency.
Last year the Savannah Red Cross trained thousands of our neighbors in lifesaving skills.
Call the Savannah Red Cross at 912-651-5300 or visit www.savannahredcross.org for class dates and times.
